I think I have a problem with the EGR valve. I have an 2006 mod. C6 V6 2,7 Hdi. I have changed the front EGR valve and the car was running very nice a while. But now the engine sometimes runs unevenly again. I think that culd be the rear EGR valve. I have heard that it is possible to blind the EGR valve. Is that possible at the C6? I understand that it is only trouble with this EGR valves at disel engines.

Be careful ! Disabling EGR could be done on earlier cars (1990's XM) with few problems, but with the advanced engine electronics, DPF system of the C6 etc I would guess this is a bad idea.

I'm sure there is a thread on site where someone has blanked the EGR's off on a C6

Full blanking is not an option. Partially blanking has helped me for a while (about 8 months) before changing the EGR valve which in the end is the better solution. Full blanking will be detected as a failure and put the ending in limping mode. (I'm doing these things because I live in a country that has long delays on part ordering...)

Hi all, my humble opinion with regard to the EGR issues is to keep the car feed on a strict diet of low SAPS engine oil, and probably premium diesel.

I'm thinking about changing to ACEA C1, once I have used up current stock. Anyone gone down this route?

Buylove, do you have the service history for the car? If a full Citroen Service, more than likely oil used would have been ACEA A3/B4 which is definetly not low SAPS.

Regards
G

Im fully agree with gmerry. I am considering ACEA C4, as low in ash as C1 and as good for wear protection as C3. But next shift is C2/C3 (Mobil 1 ESP)

(and my car was delivered from a big Citroen retailer with wrong oil)

Thanks for all the tip.

I have used a Castrol oil called Magnatec 5W-40 C3.
I thought that Castrol is a very god oil.The car has run with this oil the last 50 000 km. The car has total run 100 000km.
But I'm still thinking about blanking the EGR valves. I think that I will be free for a lot of trouble with them then.

Regards TS

The C3 standard has higher ash than the recommended C2 wich again is higher in ash than C1 and C4

Hi, with the recent request for information on EGR blanking, I thought it might be useful to post the link to the South Staff 4 x 4 website.

I know this is for North/South Jags as opposed to East /West Citroens but hardware looks so similar I'm sure there must be a chance to transfer across the knowledge maybe even the hardware.

Might be worth a call to South Staffs

Why don't you use the Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 C2 ? Your trusted brand and approved for the car.

But why not just use the recommended Total oil - Total Ineo ECS?!?

Cheers,

Hello again!
I have now blanked my C6 from 2006. I bought a *RANGE ROVER SPORT / LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 3 / JAGUAR S TYPE COMPLETE EGR REMOVAL KIT FOR THE TDV6 ENGINES.* from Myland Auto Design. Thanks to gmerry who tips me about South Staff 4x4 website.
Thank to all the other who has give me tips about this.
The engin runs now perfect. I recomend this to all who have problems with the EGR valves. I dont know wich cars this work for. At Land rover it dosen't work with newer cars than 2007. I read that it works on EU3 cars but not on EU4. My car is EU4 so I thougt that it not works but I desided to try it. Know I'm happy for that.

Did you blank both EGR valves, or just one of them? And what is the effect on the engine?!?

Cheers,
Sam

I blanked both, I think it is not possible to blank only one. The engine sometimes runs unevenly. Now the car was running very nice and while.

Thanks man! I've been doing some research on the topic myself and from what I read, technically speaking, there are only benefits to blanking the EGR valves - longer engine life, better turbo performance, less FAP problems, lower fuel consumption, lower CO & CO2 emissions. The only question that I have is how do you reprogram the ECU so that it doesn't throw any errors?!?

Cheerios,
Sam
