I know that this topic has been covered but I can't find the thread so forgive me asking again. What is the recommended Engine Oil for the C6, I always used Castrol GTX or Magnatec in my Petrol cars and found that it was great, I would like to use it in my C6 (Diesel version Obviously) but have seen other oils being mentioned on this site. Perhaps somebody can answer this question? Thanks all. |

Whatever 'Brand' of oil you use, it has to meet ACEA C2 (possibly C3) specification, Low Saps oil in ANY PSA HDi engine otherwise you will get DPF and EGR issue. | ||

This is my second oilchange (40.0000km) and I use the low-price COMMA PRO-TECH 5W30 C2 and PSA certified oil. Anyone with an opinion on this oil and maybe a suggestion for an upgrade to even a better quality ? | ||

I don't know about that... I would only use the recommended Total Quartz Ineo ECS 5W30 ACEA C2 or upgrade to the Castrol equivalent, which seems to be the Castrol Magnatec 5W30 C2 - Castrol recomends this fir the 2.7 HDi V6 instead of the top of the line Castrol EDGE 5W30, because the EDGE is ACEA C3 certified, not ACEA C2... Total is difficult to get in Norway. Castrol is available, but is it better than Comma ? On previous cars I have used Mobil 1, also available in C2, and the local Citroen garage use Valvoline of the right kind (C2) . With no copmpass in the jungle ,I went for price and avaliability. | ||

Dave is right: so long as it is C2. Oil Change frequency is THE big factor too. Personally every 6 months regardless of mileage. G PPS, Shell Helix probably use better basestock than some of their competitors with access to "GAS TO LIQUIDS" molecules, but stand to be corrected by anyone with inside industry knowledge. |

Shell is Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5W-30, but not marked with PSA approval, and PSA states clearly that some of the C2 oils are not recommended. | ||

I think Castrol is the best, isn't it?!? Can't speak for anybody else, but if Total Quartz Ineo Ecs 5W30 wasn't available, the Magnatec 5W30 C2 is what I would use... And yes, I agree that change intervals are also an important factor, but I think that Norway is a country where Citroën recommends the regular/normal service interval (clean air, good roads, not a lot of traffic), which is 2 years or 30.000 Km in which case every 6 months seems a bit excessive if you ask me  Yearly should suffice  Cheers, Sam |

After 2000km the Comma C2 oil is still clean and thin as the olive oil in the kitchen. Usually I have the 10 000km or 1 year philosophy, but consider using 20 000 or 1 year | ||

10.000 more kilometers (now 50.000) mostly long distance driving. I have bought the Mobil 1 ESP 5-30 C2 (also C3), upgrading from Comma. Both Castrol Magnatec and Valvoline SYN power is also avaialbe in C2. I want the best and takes advice....... Would the new C4 standard be better ? | ||

Tjensen, personally I'm sticking with Miller's XF Longlife C2 5W-30. My reasons for this brand include the fact that I can phone the company technical manager and get a straight answer (try doing that with Comma or other Esso brands including Mobil), its British and I like to buy British even if my son reminds me that I'm not, and it seems to be a quaility product. Schedule is evey 6 months, regardless of miles. (Low miles = town driving which is much more severe test of an oil) and I like to change in late Autumn so oil is fresh over the winter. Sump drained oil is always very black and shows viscosity increase at 6 months interval (due to soot loading) so I will not be extending this interval. Regarding best grade, the equivalent Jaguar recommendation is for a C1 grade (same engine, tolerances etc) so I consider that the engine is designed by Ford to run with ultra low SAP additives in any case and that the C2 is more of a corporate PSA thing. Thanks for more info.- I have also tried to read some more... Miller is not on the Norw market, I think. I also think the C2 solution is PSA specific. Does the Jaguar (and Rover)share the same DPF system ? The ultimate answer seem to be new C4 which combine ultar-low SAPS (like C1) with high HTHS (like C3). That should give best protection against wear without provoking the DPF/FAP system. The original C2 specifications are in between, and MOBIL 1 ESP seem OK, it is both C2 and C3 and PSA approved. Maybe a C4 oil next time ??? (tech data on Miller are very close to the Comma variant) |
