OK there was some discussion in the past ref C6 production figures which are hard to quantify, however we now have some........

I am not in a position to give the source, but you can be assured that they are as accurate as your ever going to get at the time of posting.

Total production is 22,412, deliveries to customers is 21,923.

This suggests 498 cars in stock or used for internal reasons & not registered (testing, training, crash testing, homologation, display cars).

By year the deliveries break down;

2005 - 429 ( we know there were 11 in the UK)
2006 - 5,461
2007 - 7,679
2008 - 3,172
2009 - 1,779
2010 - 1,485
2011 - 925
2012 - 993 (to Nov 26th and Right Hand Drive production has ceased)

So given those numbers, factoring in development costs, production costs, dealer training, advertising, promotion, warranty costs etc. etc. I'm making a rather reasonable assumption that every car sale has cost Citroen money.

Given all of that, can we ever expect to see another 'big' Citroen to go into production?

Thanks ! 2012 a little up..... With all the initial costs lost anyway, probably they can afford to continue production until something new arrives ?

Ha! There were 1445960 DS's, of all types (inc. ID), of which 8668 were made in Slough. There are probably more DS's still around than there are C6's, which might mean something. Or not.

In fact, there were more Light 15's produced ín Slough (25000) than C6's in France. Discuss.

Hello, fellow Citroënists!

Interesting to see the production figures. Thank you, Dave. To have done next to nothing to sell the car since 2006, I think Citroën must be proud of the figures! What a wonderful car!

Tried my friend's Audi A8 costing new appr. 1,4 mill. NOK the other day. Not a nice experience! Just like a truck to drive. Heavy steering and total lack of comfort! I was glad to return to my C6.

Many models have been in production for 10-12 years. True to this tradition, I hope Citroën will continue to make the C6 for some more years. At some point in time, there may even be a small profit? There are hardly any development costs the last 2-3 years.

I note that several 3,0 HDIs are now coming out of a 36 months lease in Germany, and next year I look forward to get one!

Regards,
Ole

£153,000 for an Audi A8 which start at around £53,600 in the UK?

That's some tax regime you have over there!

Yes,
We have a car tax in the kingdom based on weight, horsepower, carbondioxide (a lot if you have a big engine!) and NOx. The prices of new cars are probably the highest in the world! A new C6 2,7 Hdi Exclusive did cost appr. £ 95 000 with sun roof in 2007.
When you import a 3 year old car, the reduction in tax is appr. 36% compared to a new one. And there are lots and lots of nice cars in Germany!

Ole

Citroen France is selling the C6 2012 for almost half its original price... Just don't have that money right now

It's pretty bad in China too, with diesel being a scarce commodity, the C6 was only offered in the 3.0 petrol version. Add on the 100% import tax, plus others fees, a C6 in china was in the region of £100,000.

And Denmark have new car price a little above Norway, A C6 there was seen in 2010 at more than a million NKR (100 000 £). No big mystery: N and D have no car production so cars becomes an endless object of taxation. And toll roads are now everywhere, making passing fees more that fuel costs.

Citroen Norway could maybe arrange a new C6 for under 900 000 NKR. Import from France are complicated, but C6 3,0 2010-12 is often significantly lower priced there

A comment on low production: C6 is a luxury-only car (like the SM). The Traction, DS, CX and XM became dual purpose cars: cheaper entry models sold in big volumes as workhorse cars and ordinary practical family cars, and then luxury variants for state, diplomacy and luxury.

Citroen France have some new C6's (3.0 Exclusive Hdi) for sale at £27500. LHD, of course, but if you want one.... Rumour has it that the tax in France on new cars with more than 180gms CO is going up to e6000, but I should imagine that it's a one off at first registration, and not an annual charge.

Oh really? I knew that it was high long ago, and thought that it must surely have been reduced to a more 'normal' level by now - because of the EU.

I went to visit clients in Copenhagen over 20 years ago, and my contact at one of the biggest banks - my best client by far - met me at the airport with his MD, in the MD's Saab 900 Turbo. I had one at the time, and started enthusing about what a great car it ... blah blah blah.

Well, the MD hated me immediately, because he was soooo proud of a car which had cost him very serious money. He was clearly furious and humiliated that a junior British stockbroker had the same model. He stayed silent for the rest of the journey, and left us as soon as we got back to the office. He took immediate and very effective revenge on me and my firm, as we never did a penny of business with the bank after that!

And that's when I learned about Denmark's ~220% tax on new cars. I would have thought that it would have been harmonised with the rest of the EU by now. Clearly not.

One funny effect of the Danish car tax level: The real price from dealers get pressed down to reduce the difference etc. A Norwegian consumer can then buy a Danish car without Danish taxes, pay Norwegian tax and come out with significant savings compared to a normal Norwegian process

But mine is paid and then the mental trick is to forget the price and enjoy the driving, just made myself something to do outside town.......

Unfortunately it seems like the production is stopped:

This swedish motor magazine reports that since the C6 is no longer produced, C5 is the only car left in production with the hydraulic suspension. And speculates if Citroën will no longer produce any cars with this suspension after the C5 has retired.
I guess it's true, and that's probably also the explanation why they are giving so high discounts in France on C6 at the moment. They are selling out what they still have in stock.

But on the other hand, you can still configure your own C6 on Citroëns website, both in France and Germany...

Well at ICCCR we were told that production would probably run on until the introduction of the new 'Euro' emission target due 2013/2014

However with assembly plant rationalisation, maybe things have changed...
