I decided to change the upgrade (RT4) head-unit in my C6 with my JVC KD-AVX77 head unit (which was fitted in my C5 previously).

The car had an io bluetooth unit, which was working well, but I wasn't quite happy with the sound (both from the microphone, and coming out of the speakers for music bluetooth playback).

So today, my ICE specialist: Skidz is fitting a dedicated amp and an Alpine Bass bin (in the boot). I will lose a bit of boot space, but hopefully, will gain much better sound, a better interface, DAB radio, higher quality bluetooth and once fitted, a rear camera, which will show on the unit when reversing.

On the negative side, Citroën don't make it easy to fit after-market units. I have an adaptor so I can use the steering controls, it works, but I will lose the subtle parking sensors sounds, to be replaced by less subtle (and non-directional) beeps.

I will also lose some of the controls which are built in the standard RD4 unit, so won't be able to set the time, or use the dark setting...

I will update with more feedback once the car is fitted.

Franck.

With a matched 'Connects2' lead you should not lose the steering wheel controls (you don't on a C4 with similar architecture)

I have the Connects2 adaptor, and have the steering wheel controls, but it seems I have lost my parking sensors sounds completely
In my C5, they had to add a new beeper for the sensors, but I guessed they forgot this time.

The audio guys have tried to get sound out of the sensors, following the upgrade above, but no joy. It seems the canbus connection works on all Citroen models except the C6 (it was fine in my C5).
Has anyone successfullly replaced the head unit and managed to get parking sensor sound? If so which adaptor / method did you use?

The info from the sensors is still arriving and showing on the screen, just no sound.

Steering controls are also working fine, so only the issue of sensors to be resolved.

Any help very gratefully received,

Franck.

Finally got it all fixed today, I had to order a special part: The Citroen Quadlock CANbus Steering control ( - Click Here - ). This gave me back sound for parking sensors, so now all working!

I have Bluetooth (phone and music streaming), iPod and usb connectors, an amp to boost the sound and a bass bin in the boot. I have also added a camera for reversing (which feeds via the screen on my JVC unit when I shift to reverse). It all looks great and sounds amazing, so very happy.

Hi Franck, with the aftermarket head unit do you still have all the functionality of the RT4/RT5 for configuration of aircon, trip meter displays etc.

For instance, the only way to over-ride the auto control of the aircon that I know of is to use the menu / aircon menu. The only way to configure the dashboard display is through the RT4 unit. The only way to see the tyre pressure sensor outputs and and coolant/oil temperatures is through the RT4 unit.

Did you manage to get all this stuff working through an aftermarket head unit?

Regards
G

I haven't actually tried yet, but the blurb on the adaptor says:
Quadlock CANbus info wrote ...

Citroen Quadlock CANbus Steering control 39-LS2-QUAD
Car Audio Steering wheel interface allowing use of original buttons with a new aftermaket head-unit. Use with Citroen/ Peugeot cars with CAN bus and Quadlock connectors behind the radio.
Includes Ignition , speed pulse, reverse, handbrake and illumination signals.
Includes new PARKING buzzer and the ability to reset the cars trip display and CLOCK.

This model is universal and can be used with Alpine, Blaupunkt, Clarion, Pioneer, JVC, Kenwood, Sony or Zenec Head-units.
It is supplied complete with instructions and the patch lead for the new head-unit .

The cable includes buzzer to provide a new signal for parking sensors which are normally lost when the original radio is removed.

Which is an improvement on what I had in my C5, when I couldn't set the time... I'm guessing I won't be able to turn the air-con on / off from the settings though.

After further testing, I can also report that the parking sensor sound is pretty pathetic, compared to the built-in directional sounds.

It would be very interesting to know the final result: what functions have been lost, if any?
